hanging out with the girls

Lorenzo playing with Lulu and Zoe, the amazing Jack Russell terriers. He loves them, but they love the ball more. They are very sweet and terribly well behaved.

before...and after

Here's the before shot. We let him get pretty hairy during the winter. But it is very cold here, so he's needed the insulation! The only problem with the long hair is that lots of burrs and twigs get stuck in it. So we went for the full shave! The groomer was not sure if shaving him was a good idea...but he turned out pretty well. We were all quite surprised!

This is not how you are supposed to cut a Lagotto. He should have hair left on top and his leg hair should be longer. But he is sure to find this a lot cooler. It's hard to believe that there's so much less dog under all that hair! We just wanted to see what he looked like. Don't tell the international Lagotto community...they would frown on this cut, for sure! We'll let his head grow out, but his body is being kept short until the autumn.

introducing...Lorenzo!

This blog is all about Lorenzo (Kan Trace Nario), a Lagotto Romagnolo dog born in Croatia one year ago.
Stay tuned, I will be putting up lots more pictures and links to breeders in the near future.

in the water, with Lorenzo

The Lagotto enjoys swimming.

Lorenzo loves to get in the water and swim around. He will chase after a stick, but he also just likes to go in with the other dogs. He has webbed feet and a long tail, both of which help him in the water. Lagottos were once used to retrieve game in the marshlands in Italy.

This beach is only a five minute drive from our house and is designated an off-leash area. It's literally swarming with dogs on the weekend. Last weekend, Lorenzo interrupted a romantic picnic on this beach. I guess the couple didn't realize that they were sitting in the middle of an off-leash dog park. But the gaggle of dogs circling their picnic should have been the first clue! They weren't too impressed when our little friend Lorenzo (wet and covered in sand) tried to stick his nose in their basket. I noticed that they quickly picked up their picnic and headed for higher ground! Lorenzo, wasn't the only dog at their picnic...just the most persistent one.

enjoying the sandy beach

Lorenzo enjoys going to the beach. He likes to get his nose in the sand and dig around. He also enjoys digging in the garden. Sometimes, it's helpful...like when you need to plant a shrub, or something like that. Other times, the holes in the ground aren't exactly in the right place! He hunts for truffles in his native Italy, so he is very interested in digging around.

Note the super cute pink nose. The Lagotto does not have a black nose...that's how you can tell that it's a Lagotto!

getting sandy at the beach

Lorenzo loves to run on the beach.

He gets at least one hour to run, flat out, a day. Usually, he gets more than that. Lagottos are a working breed, so they really need to run every day, or they get a little wiggy!

reclining with the gordon setter

The Lagotto is a pretty social breed. He likes to hang out at the park with his pals. And he loves to go hiking with his group of pals too.

ummmm...mud!

Due to the Lagotto's nose... they do enjoy the mud! Usually, a rinse in the tub will do it. His coat is very easy to look after. It is pretty dense and woolly, which is good in the winter. We have just had him shaved for the summer, so he will be more comfortable. I'll get a picture of that up soon!

at the park
